School Supply Update
This year, Faubion is doing things a little differently with school supply lists! Instead of buying items off the supply list, we’re asking families to consider a suggested donation of $25.
Here is how it works:
Pre-K through 5th Grade: Donations will go directly to your child's teacher via their individual School Pay link (or via cash).
Middle School (6th–8th Grade): Donations will go directly to the grade level.
Why the change? This new approach actually saves families money and ensures our teachers get the exact supplies they’ll use in the classroom throughout the school year-no wasted items!
And don’t worry-Faubion will still have school supplies available for students!
We’ll be giving away essential supplies like backpacks, pencils, crayons, notebooks, and binders at our Open House on Tuesday, August 25, from 4-6 pm.

Important Dates:
Aug 12 & 13: Leap into Kinder, 9-11am & 12-2pm (for parents & students, lunch provided)
Aug 15: Community Care Day 10am-12pm
Aug 20: Middle School Night
Aug 25: Open House, 4-6pm (Note: teachers will not be present, this is an opportunity to see the space and learn about resources)
Aug 26: First Day of School for 1st-6th Grade
Aug 26-28: Kinder Ramp Up (last name A-L: August 26; last name M-Z: August 27)
Aug 27: First Day for Grades 7 + 8
Aug 31: First Day for Kindergarten
What started as a way to help our families fill the gap left by the disappearance of SNAP benefits in November has now extended into a general resilience fundraiser to help our families throughout the year when they most need it.
The Faubion Resilience Fund goes directly through Wraparound Services and will be used to assist families in need of urgent assistance. These funds will also be prioritized for families who are experiencing the aftermath of ICE arrests and/or deportations, if they should arise.

Elizabeth Doerr
VICE PRESIDENT
Elizabeth Doerr is mom to Finch (fourth grade) and feels so lucky to be a part of the Faubion community. She is passionate about social and racial justice and is very politically active. Elizabeth is also a co-founder of Families for Equity in Schools and hopes to find ways for the Faubion Community PTA to participate actively in advocacy or fully-funded Oregon schools.
Elizabeth is also really excited to bring her experience organizing around the integrated schools model (www.integratedschools.org) to Faubion. -

Spenser Tangman
TREASURER
Spenser is excited to serve his first year on the PTA and support the Faubion community by fostering a culture of inclusivity and respect. He is passionate about empowering students to become leaders for a more socially just world. A NE Portland native, Spenser returned home in 2022 with his wife, Rebecca, and their two children, James (8) and Elina (4). He enjoys reading, gardening, cooking, and evening walks around Concordia with the family dog, Luna.

Serena Marquardt
MEMBER AT LARGE
Serena is in her 21st year teaching, her 10th at Faubion and has mostly taught Kinder and 1st Grade. She currently teachers 1st grade at Faubion. Serena is born and raised in Portland just a few blocks from Faubion! She still lives in the neighborhood with her husband, Logan, and our three children, Miles, Simone, and Ellington -- and she and her husband are huge jazz fans. In her free time she loves spending time with my family/friends and visiting the Oregon Coast.

Erica Hale
MEMBER AT LARGE
Erica teaches 4th grade at Faubion. She is so excited to be a part of the PTA in a different way this year (her fifth on the board!). She knew when she stepped into Faubion School Spring of 2012, that she was at home. She has loved being a part of this school community, it means the world to her. She lives in NE Portland with her husband, Phillip, and her three children Sebastian, Talan, and Mia. They love traveling and taking summer camping trips in the PNW!

Christina Gomez
COMMUNITY SCHOOL COORDINATOR / AT-LARGE PTA BOARD MEMBER
Christina Gomez is thrilled to be part of the Faubion community. She and her family moved to Portland from Brooklyn, NY in 2019, and found a welcoming community here. She has two wonderful kids in 5t and 9th grade at Faubion. Her passion for education started in public school, where she discovered a love for learning and all the positive experiences it brings. She's enthusiastic about the outdoors, exploring new cuisines, emoji hearts and anything related to the arts. She's dedicated to advocating for our students and families and making this school year a fantastic experience for everyone.
